John creates original butcher block tables made with end-grain wood, which means you can cut on it directly, no cutting board needed, and the knife will not leave deep scars. Because of the wood grain orientation, the knife edge cuts between the grain instead of across it, so the structure isn’t compromised as you chop. It is 100% food safe (yes, even for meat!)

This butcher block is made with a 6″ thick, Maple top and Black Ash base. It is assembled with wedges and through tennons – no steal hardware was used.

A well-maintained butcher block will last more than a lifetime. There are butcher blocks in Europe that are still in use after hundreds of years. This is an heirloom you will pass on to your children’s children.

Care instructions: Wipe down with soap and water. Don’t saturate it with water. If the wood starts looking tired or chalky, generously re-coat with mineral oil and allow oil to sink in.
